Diamond Clarity
When speaking about diamond clarity, one is referring to the quality of a diamond relating to the existence and/or visual appearance of specific internal characteristics of a diamond known as inclusions, as well as surface defects known as blemishes. A universal diamond clarity grading scale is utilized to classify and categorize different qualities of diamonds.
Clarity: Refers to how clean or clear a diamond is internally
- F – Flawless Diamond, shows no inclusions when examined under a 10x magnification
- IF – Internally Flawless Diamond, has no inclusions when examined under a 10x magnification, but does contain some minor blemishes
- VVS1 & VVS2 – Very, Very Slightly Included Diamond, contains miniscule inclusions that are difficult to see under a 10x magnification
- VS1 & VS2 – Very Slightly Included Diamond, contains minute inclusions such as clouds, feathers or small crystals when observed under a 10x magnification
- SI1 & S2 – Slightly Included Diamond, contains inclusions such as clouds, knots, cavities, feathers, clouds and included crystals which are noticeable under a 10x magnification
- I1 &I2 – Included Diamond, contains inclusions, with potentially large feathers and/or included diamonds that are obvious under a 10x magnification
