Diamond Cut
Often confused with the shape of a diamond, the cut is a reference to a particular diamond’s reflective qualities and abilities. Widely considered the most important of all the “Four C’s”, a high quality cut diamond will offer an incredible amount of brilliance and fire which reflects nearly all of the light which enters it.
Cut: Often referred to as the “make” of a diamond, the cut is directly responsible for the fire and brilliance of a diamond, which results from the proper cutting and proportioning of a diamond
- Ideal Cut – Reflects nearly all light that enters resulting in an exquisite and rare diamond. This cut is intended to maximize brilliance, generally with a compliment of smaller table sizes, the Ideal Cut diamond will create an enormous amount of dispersion and “fire”.
- Premium Cut – Intended to offer amazing brilliance and fire, with a cut that is often nearly matching the quality of an ideal cut, yet can generally be had at a slightly lesser price.
- Very Good Cut – Reflects nearly the same amount of light as the Premium cut but can be had at a lower price as well, yet the cutters of a Very Good Cut diamond will usually have strayed from the expected measurements of a Very Good Cut, instead opting for a slightly less brilliant yet larger overall sized diamond.
- Good Cut – Reflects most light which enters is but is significantly less expensive that a Very Good or Ideal Cut. The diamond cutter has chosen to create the largest possible diamond from the rough crystal in which they began with, offering fantastic cost-savings to consumers who are on a tight budget, while at the same time usually without need to sacrifice quality or beauty
- Fair & Poor – Only a small amount of light enters and is reflected by a Fair & Poor graded diamond. Quite often, diamond cutters of these diamonds will craft a product that emphasizes carat weight over all other diamond characteristics.
