Wedding Rings for Your Loved One
When it comes to choosing the perfect wedding ring it really is a matter of preference. It does help to be informed. Wedding bands are a huge purchase, so one will want to get the most for their money.
Women’s Rings
Women get two rings, the engagement ring and the wedding ring. They can be purchased separately or together as a set. They come in several metals including platinum, gold, white gold and rose gold. Women’s wedding rings also come in many styles. They can have diamonds, or just be a band. The engagement ring typically has a stone, preferably a diamond.
Diamonds Preferences
There are four C’s when it comes to the quality of a diamond.
• Cut – This refers to the facet proportions on the surface.
• Color – The ideal engagement ring is clear to the point it is almost colorless.
• Clarity - All diamonds have imperfections, clarity rating goes from FL flawless to 13 which has many.
• Carat weight – This is simply the weight of the diamond.
Diamonds also come in several shapes. They are round, princess, emerald, oval, cushion, heart, Lucida, square, pear and marquise. Diamonds can be in a solitaire, three stone, pave, diamond band, or side stones setting as well. Value depends all upon the four C’s as mentioned before, not the shape or setting.
Wedding Sets
A wedding set is for women, and includes both the engagement ring and wedding ring. The engagement ring will have a larger stone on it, and the wedding ring is usually in the same style, and will complement the engagement ring. Purchasing the engagement band and wedding band as a set can be great convenience, and one can be sure they will match well.
Men’s Rings
Men’s rings come in several metals as well and are measured in hardness and durability. All gold comes in 9, 14, and 18 karat. Men’s rings can have gemstones if preferred.
Some of the popular metal choices are:
• Tungsten – This is a grey white color and durable with a permanent polish so they always look shiny.
• Rose Gold – Just as it sounds rose gold is a pink toned gold.
• White Gold – Has a silvery gold finish.
• Yellow Gold – Just as it sounds, the most common gold.
• Titanium – Silver colored metal that is very strong.
Measuring
Rings typically come in a width of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 mm. The rule of thumb is that the ring should match the shape of the hand and length of the fingers. Again, it comes down to personal style. The jeweler or associate from the store will measure each finger to determine the appropriate ring size as well.
