Diamond Shapes

Each and every shape of a diamond offers unique benefits and styles to a potential consumer. Understanding the difference between each of these diamond shapes can get confusing however. The fact that all diamond shapes are so different, they each offer their own unique characteristics to ultimately determine their overall quality for their particular shape.

Shapes:

  • Round – By far the most popular shaped diamond, simple and round for a classic look
  • Princess Cut – An oblong shape that can also be square or almost square, extremely popular among the “fancy” (Non-round) shaped diamonds, designed to get maximum brilliance. The princess has pointed corners and is traditionally square in shape.
  • Pear – A hybrid cut, combines the best of the oval and the marquise, shaped like a teardrop
  • Marquis – Elongated shape with pointed ends
  • Oval – An even and perfectly symmetrical design with an elongated shape, similar to a round diamond and ideal for people with small hands or short fingers, as well as those with long and slender fingers as well
  • Radiant – Square or rectangular cut that combines the elegance of the emerald cut and the brilliance of the round cut. Built to maximize the effect of color refraction, the trimmed corners of a Radiant Cut diamond are its signature making is a highly popular choice.
  • Heart – Basically a pear-shaped diamonds with a cleft at the top, the ultimate symbol of love
  • Cushion – Antique style cut, also referred to as a “pillow cut”,  has been in existence for over a century, it has an open cutlet and a rectangular square shape with rounded corners as well as larger facets to maximize brilliance and highlight the clarity of a particular diamond
  • Emerald – Rectangular shape with cut corners, also known as a “step cut” due to its broad, flat planes which resembles a staircase. What really sets the Emerald Cut apart is its pavilion, which is cut with rectangular facets to craft a unique optical appearance.
  • Asscher – Very uniquely shaped, the Asscher Cut is quite nearly identical to the emerald-cut, except that it is square shaped
